This article focuses on some of the controversial preachers who are members of the Kikuyu community.

Some of these preachers include:

1. Dr JJ Gitahi

Bishop Gitahi of Priesthood Fellowship Church in Kahawa West is a doctorate holder. He came into the limelight due to his controversial teachings such as teaching women how to clean their vaginas so as to keep their men. His church services are popular due to his hilarious teachings on lifestyle and marriage life, which are usually in Kikuyu language. Here are six incidents where Bishop JJ Gitahi courted controversy.

2. Pastor Michael Njoroge

He preaches at Fire Gospel Ministry. He made headlines after Easter Mwende, a sex worker, claimed that the preacher had paid her to give false testimonies in his church as a way of attracting more followers. She further claimed that she had had a sexual encounter with the pastor. The expose was done by investigative journalist Mohammed Ali, who is the current Member of Parliament for Nyali.

3. Pastor James Ng'ang'a

He ministers at Neno Evangelism Center. He is linked to the death of Mercy Njeri who died in a road accident on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway on July 26, 2015. He, however, denied driving the Range Rover that is reported to have caused the accident. The pastor is said to have once served a jail sentence at the Shimo La Tewa prison in Mombasa.

4. Thomas Wahome

He ministers at Helicopter of Christ Church. He was linked to controversy when he said he had gained access to God's 'Book of Life' where his followers had to pay him a fee of Sh1000 so that he could cross-check if their names were in the book. Followers were also required to pay a fee of at least Sh1200 to receive healing from touching his clothes, just like Jesus healed the woman with an issue of blood after she touched the hem of His garment.

5. Victor Mwangi Kanyari

'Prophet' Kanyari of Salvation Healing Ministry made headlines after yet another expose by Jicho Pevu's Mohammed Ali. Kanyari was accused of performing fake miracles by using potassium permanganate to turn water into 'blood'. He is also accused of paying people to give fake miracles of their healing in church. He also was criticised and accused of exploiting believers by asking them to plant a seed of Sh310.
