KeNHA was demolishing the buildings on road reserve along the Nakuru-Nyahururu road.

According to business people at White House area, the elderly bought the building at a ‘throw-away-price’ from its earlier owner.

“The owner got wind of the demolitions early last year and started looking for a buyer. He was connected to the mzee. The mzee was enticed by the cheap price of the building and piece of land,” a trader aware of the goings on around the purchase said.

Hardly had the mzee started collecting rent from the house when KeNHA officials started marking buildings on the road reserve.

“When the building was marked, the buyer started looking for the seller. He had vanished though,” the source added.

The old mzee has been looking for a refund of his money and when KeNHA finally bulldozed the building on Tuesday morning, the money collapsed.“Don’t laugh you people, the man fell and peed on himself. You think it is a small thing to lose Sh5 million?” a resident said.

A KeNHA official warned people against buying buildings which are not 30 metres from the road.

“The man was quick to cough out the money because the deal was too sweet to let go. Now see, it even has an effect on his health but there is nothing we could have done because we have to bring all the building down,” the official said.
