Central Region Governors have called on the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance to ensure the gazettement of the recent coffee regulations.

They say this will be a boost to the region which prides in coffee and tea as the main economic crops.

Speaking at Elementaita in Nakuru during Governors’ meeting for Central Region Economic Bloc, the governors led by Nyandarua’s Francis Kimemia commended the President for the taskforce on the coffee industry.

In addition, the governors have vowed to ensure the enforcement of the regulations on the packaging of potatoes and tomatoes.

“We want to commend the President for the taskforce on the coffee sector. We call on the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance to ensure they gazette the recent coffee regulations. We are committed to ensuring the enforcement of the regulations on the packaging of potatoes and tomatoes” said Kimemia.

According to Kimemia, the meeting saw the Governors discuss enhancement of Agriculture which is also the backbone for the Central Region Economic Bloc.

Among the major cash crops in the Central region are coffee, tea and pyrethrum among others and the governors came into agreement on how to boost the same.

On the ongoing push and pull concerning the 2022 succession politics, the Governors from Central slammed those engaged in 2022 politics saying Kenyans will decide when the right time comes.

The governors appealed to fellow leaders I central to keep off 2022 politics but rather focus on the Big 4 agenda of the government.

“We appeal to our leaders in the region to reduce the political temperatures and focus on development agenda and service delivery to our people,” said Kimemia who read the resolutions on behalf of the governors.

The forum was also attended by Governors Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri), Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia).
