Sharon whose lifeless body was discovered in a forest in Kodera Forest in Homabay County last week was 7 months pregnant at the time of her death.

The family which had set the burial for Friday said that it has since pushed the burial forward on the request of Homabay County officials.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, Sharon's mother Melida Auma said that the county government had requested for more time to organize itself to financially aid the family.

"The county executive for water, Dickson Nyawinda, requested us to postpone the burial to enable them to organise themselves how to intervene with their aid," Auma is quoted by the Standard.

She added that the hasty decision was fueled by the realization that the cost of preserving the foetus is higher than that of preserving a normal body.

Sharon's death followed a reported abduction alongside journalist Barack Oduor in Rongo Town, Migori on Monday night last week, with Barack, however, managing to escape.

A postmortem conducted by government pathologist Johansen Oduor has since confirmed that she was indeed killed by strangulation and stabbing.

It revealed that several blows penetrated into her tummy, killing the foetus as well.
