Kisumu County is predominantly inhabited by members of the Luo community, whose political affiliation is largely to the opposition side since independence.

And though it is the capital of the larger Luo Nyanza region, some of its infrastructures remain in the name of other national leaders from other regions, forgetting its own.

With the region being home to strong leaders like first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga, Tom Mboya, Achieng' Oneko and Raila Odinga, their names are yet to be fully considered.

Here are some of the changes needed to honor the region's very own;

1. Renaming the Moi Stadium

Retired President Daniel Moi enjoys many other acknowledgements courtesy of schools and universities, making it better for the stadium to be renamed and given a name of a local leader.

For instance, Moi has also been considered for the Moi Sports Center Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

2. Renaming the Kisumu International Airport

Just like the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Moi Airport in Eldoret, why not name the Kisumu airport after Oginga or Mboya?

Also, the name appears shallow and blur, and lacks a sense of belonging.

3. Lake Victoria

Though the lake is shared between Kenya and her neighbours Uganda and Tanzania, it would be better to rename the Kenyan side and eradicate the British queen's name.

Also, renaming it will eradicate the recurrent fishing rows between Kenya and Uganda, as the Kenyan side will be different from the other part, making any intruders openly provocative.

If possible, these leaders should as well be considered in other parts of the nation.
