Speaking on Monday during the release of the universities placement results at Catholic University Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, said 89,486 students from different counties in the nation have been selected for their degree programmes of choice.

The selection came after 90,755 scored a mean grade of C+ and above.

Magoha also revealed that 1,269 who had qualified to join public universities decided to enrol for diploma courses in TVET colleges.

The Education Ministry selected 56,210 boys (59 per cent) against 36,876 (41 per cent) girls to join the various universities under the government-sponsored programme.

Magoha said that the remaining students were not selected in their dream courses because they did not meet the threshold set.

"The Commission for University Education must conduct a thorough analysis of these courses, including a review and scrapping of such programmes," said Prof Magoha, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The CS also urged various education stakeholders to ensure that public and private universities are fully utilized to benefit Kenyans in various capacities.
