She was fiery, hard-hitting and straight to the point when she hosted various vernacular radio shows.

Gathoni Wa Muchomba, now the current Kiambu Women Representative, radio career hit the peak when she hosted Inooro FM's breakfast show, 'Hagaria', and Sunday evening political show christened as 'Kiririmbi'.

During the latter, Gathoni was known to steer the fiery show that was dominated by male politicians with such admirable prowess that earned her the title 'Queen of Kikuyu radio'. She was basically the voice of the voiceless.

Her departure from the station three years later left many of her fans disappointed wondering why she could take such a move when she was enjoying such unmatched popularity.

Gathoni would, nevertheless, return back to radio in 2013 this time at Kameme FM where she hosted a popular Saturday morning show, 'Muiguithania' (Reconciler). She did it till she was elected Kiambu Women Rep.

However, Gathoni can't be said to be doing well in politics as she was doing on radio. In this field, she is basically a shadow of her former self. Why say so?

First, Gathoni is not the firebrand 'mtetezi wa wanyonge' she was known to be some years back. She is rarely seen in action and whenever she hits the headlines, it is for the wrong reasons.

Many can remember how she was forced to apologize after she became the first MP to ask for a pay rise even before she could be sworn in. Many of her constituents called her greedy and selfish noting that she was prioritizing her own welfare instead of that of the people who elected her to Parliament. Her up to then good public image has never regained.

In April she would again find herself on the defensive after she said that men should be allowed to marry as many women as they can, provided they can take responsibility. These utterances put her at odds with the church which saw her as propagating unchristian values.

Since then she has taken a low profile and who knows what she will say next when she again emerges from her 'hibernation'.
