This is after the much anticipated demolition of the mall was postponed until the said date.

The move also comes amid the expiration of a notice issued by the multi-sectoral committee on the demolition of all buildings considered unsafe.

The county government had been given until Thursday to ensure the building is demolished.

Chief Julius Wanjau, who is Nairobi regeneration task force operation’s manager, confirmed that the demolition will be undertaken in the coming week.

“So far we have been able to flatten one side of the twin Southend Mall and by Saturday we should have entirely flattened everything. We do not want to do shoddy work so we would rather take even years if necessary but ensure that by the time we move on to the next building we have completed what we set out to achieve,” he said.

The owner of the building declined to respond on the matter when contacted.

He asked the media to wait until that time comes.

He has previously dared the government to demolish the whole property after it was said to lie on riparian land.
