The Homa Bay county boss on Friday sent his Deputy Hamilton Orata to the United Kingdom to receive firefighting gear donated by the UK Rotary Club.

Orata and other top county officers were handed two fire engines presented to the county by Workington Rotary Fire Officer Nick Okey.

Also handed over to the county were 40 pairs of boots, helmets, suits and gloves and an ambulance.

This follows a request made by Salome Abela a Members of the Homa Bay County Assembly during her earlier visit to London.

This could be an indication that though he is back in office, the county has not fully recovered from his eye surgery last year.

Let it be remembered that this is not the first time Governor Awiti is missing such important functions.

He also did not make it for the ruling on his reelection petition several weeks earlier, a ruling that would either break or make his political career and his dream for the county.

Otherwise, the county boss would have taken it upon himself to go and receive the equipment, considering that the county has been grappling with a shortage of anti-inferno gear.

Among people who confirmed his ailment was opposition leader Raila Odinga.
