Croatia will be without their right-back Sime Vrsaljko when they face England on their semi-final match of the Russia World Cup 2018 at Luzhniki Stadium.
The Atletico Madrid star picked up an injury during their quarter-finals clash with hosts Russia on Saturday. The 26-years-old went off during the seventh minute of their extra-time.
He will be replaced with Lokomotiv Moscow veteran Vedran Corluka. Vrsaljko wouldn’t be risked as his injury wouldn’t be healed by Wednesday night as they meet England.
Croatia will be looking to reach the World Cup final for the second time in their history if they beat England today.
Speaking ahead of the match, Vedran Corluka said, “No it’s not just another game.”
“We have been watching England in all their games. They are confident and have a young team. But before they didn’t have any pressure.”
“You all just said to them, ‘Just do what you can’, but now even you are hoping that it can come home, yeah? We have never won the World Cup so we can’t say the same thing, can we?” he concluded.
This is just days after Croatia’s Football Federation (HNS) sacked their assistant coach over a video he posted after Saturdays’ victory to Russia.
