With the rise of a fresh set of leaders with new ideologies and development plans, a number of veteran leaders from the Luo Nyanza region have been overshadowed.

These include former powerful politicians who had massive influence and support, but have since reduced to political nobodys, enjoying very little or no backing.

Here are some of them;

1.Oburu  Oginga

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member has since further weakened politically, only surviving on the mercy of his younger brother and opposition leader Raila Odinga, who apparently facilitated his current job.

Despite being observed as the next Luo kingpin after the death of his father and first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, even inheriting his Bondo parliamentary seat, Oburu has since lost it all, ending up completely irrelevant.

2. Ayiecho Olweny

He is the immediate former lawmaker for Muhoroni constituency and was at some point the Assistant Cabinet Minister of Education.

Despite being close to Odinga, Oburu lost his seat in the 2013 general elections to the incumbent Onyango K’Oyoo, and has since gone silent after again losing in the previous election.

In 2013, he lost despite approaching the elections on the area’s dominant Orange party ticket.

3. Dalmas Otieno

The immediate former lawmaker for Rongo was one considered one of the most powerful and promising leaders from the region until he messed up courtesy of his ‘Kalausi’ (whirlwind) uprising, that automatically landed him in problem with the dominant ODM party.

This would see him lose his bid in 2017, with his attempt to regain the party’s trust for the pending Migori senatorial by-election too going off course, when the party instead opted for his predecessor in Rongo Ochilo Ayacko.

His move into the government is set to make him even more irrelevant.
