Siaya Senator James Orengo is anticipated to participate in county gubernatorial race for the approaching 2022 general elections.

Should this be the case, he will most likely win, judging by the popularity he is currently basking in, as a result of his closeness to opposition leader Raila Odinga, who is the region’s political kingpin.

Through the same, the Senior Counsel easily defended his seat in the concluded polls, going ahead to win without campaigning at all.

However, politics being a dynamic and unpredictable game, Orengo could as well decide to defend his seat for the second time, a move that will block his future political endeavors for a few years.

This being his chance, considering that he will have no solid opposition as the current Governor Cornel Rasanga is on his way out, another Senatorial bid will see another governor take the seat, making it hard  for Orengo to capture it for the next several years.

This is judging by the uphill task usually experienced by hopefuls when trying to unseat incumbents, most of whom lay the foundation for their reelections immediately after they take over.

Also, he will most likely lose relevance in the region, judging by the alarming rise of the young and energetic lawmakers in the likes of Rarieda's Otiende Amollo.

To ensure that he remains relevant, the Senator will need to demonstrate his power and influence and go for a higher seat, failure to which he will find himself in power and influence wrangles with Amollo.

Considered the possible next Luo Kingpin after the looming exit of Odinga, another shot at the senatorial seat will demonstrate his unwillingness to elevate his politics and, therefore, unsuitable for the top seat which at times entails vying for presidency.

With Amollo already enjoying fame after co-representing Raila in his successful petition against President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election in 2017, he is most likely to go for a higher seat in 2022, most likely the Senate.

And with the two in the same contest, Amollo could pull a first one on Orengo, or Orengo could win with a thin margin which would be an embarrassment on the side of the man who vied for the top seat in 2002.

In the gubernatorial race, Orengo will win by a landslide, provided that Amollo keeps off.
