On October 24, the Port registered a performance record of 1,450 moves within an eight hour shift in the container operations.

The record was set by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) container vessel MSC Maxine in her maiden call at the Port of Mombasa on Wednesday, beating the previous record of container carrier Livorno of 1,265 moves recorded later June this year.

However, another record has been broken by container carrier MV Ever Diamond which recorded 1,523 moves within an eight hours shift.

In a speech delivered by Head of Container Operations Edward Opiyo, on-behalf of KPA Acting Managing Director Dr. Daniel Manduku, the KPA boss said they are now targeting to dispatch the big vessels within 48 hours of arrival.

"That means we are setting a service time of 48 hours. Once we achieve this target, it will be easier to sustain and manage the fixed berthing windows for all the vessels calling at the Container Terminal," he said.

The new record by the EverGreen vessel was attained during the second shift.

In this voyage the Panama-flagged vessel loaded a record 900 full export containers, 1500 empties and discharged 1919 import containers.
