Speaking to journalists when she toured the hospital on Wednesday alongside her deputy, Peter Ndambiri, Waiguru said the six officials have been suspended and are waiting to face a disciplinary committee.

The governor accused the unnamed six officials of conspiring with her political rivals to sabotage service provision at the health facility with an aim of painting her in a bad light.

"Investigations by the task force which I had formed has revealed sabotage and we shall deal ruthlessly with those responsible. Whatever is happening is all about 2022 politics. Politicians are working with my officers to ruin the sector. Why not wait and give me a chance to deliver on my mandate? she asked.

This is as she denied claims that some nurses have contracted Hepatitis B due to poor sanitation at the hospital, adding that she has already written to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPD) outlining measures taken to improve the bad state at the hospital which is relied on by thousands of county residents.

Some of these measures include a thorough cleaning of the facility and raising of the supplementary budget to cater for incineration facilities, recruitment of a health executive and cutting down on the number of casual workers whom she said are more than required.

On Tuesday, Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga noted that poor management of Kirinyaga health facilities had led to the crowding of Embu Level Five Hospital by Kirinyaga residents seeking alternative health services.
