In July, the two were scheduled to attend funeral for Governor John Nyagarama's son, Mr. Ndemo Nyagarama only for Raila to show up as Ruto shifted his focus to Bungoma.

But West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi, who is expected to lead MPs in mourning of one of his predecessors Mr. Henry Obwocha, said the two leaders will attend the function.

"The president was at the requiem mass and excused himself but am aware that Raila will be around after which he will oversee closing of ongoing county games at Kisii.

"Equally, the DP will be also attending given his personal relationship with Obwocha which dates back to many years. We encourage supporters to restrain from any acts that could sabotage peace," he added.

After his death, Raila was among the first people to condole with the family before visiting their Karen home. On his part, the DP described Obwocha as a great Kenyan after his death.

For months now, Ruto has been trying to make inroads in Nyamira, a region that has backed Raila's bid in decades including the last two general elections.
