The music industry is in mourning following the death of celebrated musician Joel Riiya.

The 'Murata Wa Mundu' hitmaker died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the Kiambu Level Four Hospital.

Riiya, who was also a Deacon at the Akorino church, had been sick for some months now leading to his hospitalisation at the health facility.

The musician leaves behind his beloved wife, two teenage girls and a young boy.

While announcing his death, Inooro FM radio presenter Jeff Kuria termed Riiya's passing a big blow to the industry, noting that the artist had composed and recorded several songs that inspire hundreds of his fans.

The deceased hails from Karogoe village, Njoro Sub-County, Nakuru.

He has been singing for over a decade and has produced hits such as Thuthuria, Baba ni Unjuui among others.

The Gikuyu music fraternity has gone through a tough moment in the past two months, as it has lost two prominent musicians.

Legendary benga icon Joseph Kamaru passed away four weeks ago while another secular artist Tutu Muraya had died a month ago while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
