In December at Kisumu, Raila was fronted by State House to usher in President Uhuru Kenyatta when he landed at Kisumu International Airport despite the presence of Ruto, raising eyebrows.

On Wednesday when Uhuru landed in an Air Force helicopter, Ruto led Mr Odinga, Chief Justice David Maraga, Governors James Ongwae (Kisii) and John Nyagarama (Nyamira) in ushering in the Head of State.

Powerful Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i assumed roles of introducing local leaders to the president and his guests by the virtue of being the senior-most government leader from the region.

For about one hour, Uhuru listened to speeches from Gusii leaders at Kisii School before responding to a few of them.

"The most important thing is working together. We are here as a team to show Kenyans that divisive politics will not take us anywhere," he said.

Uhuru added: "As a government, we shall will closely with all leaders to foster development in all parts of the country. It's not the time for politics and we ought to understand that."

The entire team proceeded to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where they are expected to commission a newly built 250-bed capacity men's ward, doctors hostels among others.

Mr Odinga's decision to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta caused jitters within DP William Ruto's camp, at times precipitating fireworks from either side.
