Had police at the Mwariki police post acted swiftly to distress calls from John Ikua on Monday evening, they would have cornered a gang of five robbers who staged a theft at his Supermarket in Pipeline area, Nakuru.

The five were in two motorbikes. The three pillions entered Fauna Supermarket as the rest remained standby (on steering).

One of the three who entered the outlet had a gun.

When they entered the shop masked, Ikua’s seven-year-old boy instinct told him something was amiss.

The young boy, apparently knowing his mum who was at the cashier was a risk of three masked men, screamed calling for his father.

His father was away in the CCTV monitoring room.

“When I heard my son scream I knew all was not well and when I checked the CCTV I saw robbers in the supermarket and I immediately called the police at Mwariki,” Ikua said.

In the footage, one of the robbers is seen possibly threatening the ‘stubborn boy’ who is seen staring at them as he screams.

Police at Mwariki came twenty minutes later when the gunmen had emptied the cash.

One robber had even time to pick a pack of cigarettes possibly for puffs after ‘job well executed’.

“As business persons in this area, we are not secure. We need more security,” Ikua decried.

More than Sh100, 000 was stolen as well as phones including from customers who found themselves in the robbers’ hands.
