The Sunday statement from the Murang'a senator is a big blow to deputy president William Ruto who has been working with him ahead of 2022 polls.

Mr Kang'ata said however, he will not move around discrediting the DP, insisting that he respects the county's second in command despite his latest decision.

"He has been my friend ... that's why I don't malign him and his presidential bid," he said.

According to Daily Nation, Mr Kang'ata said, "I choose to abide by the directive of the President and I will wait for his direction on where the Mt Kenya region will be in the 2022 game plan."

Mr Kang'ata and Moses Kuria of Gatundu becomes the latest legislators from Mt Kenya region who have since detached from Ruto's campaign team.

With their future uncertain, Kang'ata says he will support President Uhuru Kenyatta's agenda which includes pushing for Agenda four delivery.

Last year, Kang'ata, who still considers Uhuru as the Mt Kenya kingpin, hinted that he will push to have Uhuru in power regardless of the position the Head of State might take
