Khalwale who unsuccessfully vied for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in the 2017 general election had been very vocal on the issue before he recently slipped into silence.

But in an interview on Radio Maisha on Wednesday morning, the Ford Kenya Deputy Party leader blamed Kenyans for turning their backs on leaders displaying his characteristics.

He accused them of continuously voting on tribal lines as was the case in 2017, a trend he said frustrated him, leading to him stopping his anti-corruption activism.

‘’Nimegundua wakenya hawafuati ukweli bali viongozi wa kikabila. Mimi na wegine tulijaribu kupigana na viongozi wafisadi lakini wakachaguliwa tu.

(I have realised that Kenyans do not cherish the truth, instead, they keep electing tribal leaders regardless of their characters),’’ he said.

He noted that he has therefore resorted to concentrate on politics, and thereafter fight the menace from within.

‘’Itabidi tungoje tuingie kitini kwanza, hii ndio sababu kuu yangu kutulia (I have decided to concentrate on making a return into politics first for better results),’’ he added.

Khalwale shot to fame in 2008, when then the Ikolomani lawmaker, he led an onslaught against then Finance Cabinet Minister Amoss Kimunya who had reportedly controversially facilitated the sale of the Grand Regency Hotel.

The lawmaker hilariously gave a rhyming series of reasons why Kimunya had to vacate office, in what would later be known as the ‘Kimunya must go’ push.
