A heated debate has resurfaced on social media over Wednesday's trip by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to Gusii region.

The trip had been postponed in January under unclear circumstances with a section of area MPs blaming DusitD2 terror attack that claimed 21 lives and several injuries.

And a section of Nyamira residents are now worried that Uhuru could snub the county due to lack of projects for launching with the president's itinerary remaining a top secret.

"The truth is, he's only visiting Kisii because there is something to launch. In Nyamira, it's all about corruption and the president will not have time for us," said Sam Omosa.

Erick Atunga added: "We might be forced to cross over to Kisii and demand that the president dissolves our county. We expected him to visit the two counties jointly."

But Borabu MP Ben Momanyi insists that it's the prerogative of the president to initiate and launch development projects across the country regardless of the region.

"You can't really say that there isn't something to launch in Nyamira. Then this means the president should come and initiate something then. We are hopeful that he's coming," he said.

It will be Uhuru's first ever trip to the region since 2017 elections and he's expected to be accompanied by ODM leader Raila Odinga and Interior CS Fred Matiang'i.
