In a post on his official Facebook page on Friday, Mutua said he respects nurses so much, adding that he's always astonished when people don't recognise the difficult service nurses undertake.

"It's important for citizens to recognise the sacrifice and conditions our workers have to endure in the quest for efficient service delivery," he said.

The governor reaffirmed his support to nurses during the International Nurses Week Celebrations at Taita Taveta University in Voi, and also highlighted to them what his government is doing for nurses in Machakos.

"I am one of the governors who paid nurses their allowances and in 2015 my government promoted over 400 nurses and had their arrears settled in full," said Mutua.

The county boss went ahead to say that in the same year (2015) he hired 800 nurses and is currently in the process of hiring 103 nurses with a plan to recruit 800 more.

"We have created a position for director of nursing and we are recruiting within Machakos. My message to all nurses is do not lose hope. In 2022 I will be contesting to become the 5th president of Kenya so that nurses and other workers can get the recognition, rights and respect they deserve," he added.
