Just days after President Uhuru Kenyatta departed for China in the company of ODM leader Raila Odinga, a vocal Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator has spilt the beans on the trips' significance to 2022 elections.

The latest statement by Uriri MP Mark Nyamita indicated that Raila and Uhuru had not only gone to secure the Chinese loan but also to assure the foreign government on how the loans would be repaid even beyond 2022.

“The two leaders went to China not only to acquire development loans but assure the Chinese that in the next transition period, there will be safe pair of hands to pay back the whole debt,” Nyamita said.

That the MP alleged that the trip was all about 2022 succession political should worry Deputy President William Ruto to the bone. If the issue was indeed on 2022 and beyond, then DP Ruto should have accompanied the President to China given their pre-election deal ahead of 2013 general elections.

Considering the recent developments after the handshake took over from the country's unstable politics, it might be argued that Ruto could be in for a rude shock.

Furthermore, occasional statements from a section of Mt Kenya leaders as Moses Kuria that they owe the DP nothing on 2022 presidential politics speaks it all.

However, it is just up to Kenyans to watch and see if the China trip has any significance to 2022 succession politics between Uhuru and Raila.

If this happens to be true, then DP Ruto should brace for a tough political battle ahead.
