The Kisii County government has announced plans to employ (on contract) retired nurses with specialized experience to work at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH).

Speaking to journalists in Kisii, the County Secretary and Head of Public Service Patrick Lumumba asked the nurses with specialization in theatre, paramedic, renal, ICU and HDU to urgently present their details at the office of the hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Enock Ondari as from Monday.

The County Secretary said a special desk will be set in the office of the CEO adding that those suitable for the job will be employed immediately.

“We are starting to collect details of the specialized nurses as from tomorrow (Monday). The Kisii County Government is committed to offering quality health care services not only for the people of Kisii but also to our surrounding counties like Migori, Nyamira, Siaya, Homabay and parts of Bomet and Narok Counties,” said Lumumba.

Kenya National Union of Nurses Kisii Branch yesterday dismissed news propelled by some media houses that nurses have resumed work asking residents to ignore.

"We have not resumed work and what we are hearing on media is propaganda propelled by the Hospital CEO. We ask our nurses to stay home until further communication is made from us,"
