A section of MPs from Nyamira are set to skip President Uhuru Kenyatta's maiden trip to the neighbouring Kisii despite an invitation to attend a closed-door meeting.

In what is seen as a protest following the president's decision to cancel trip to Nyamira, already two MPs have expressed their reservations to the trip, adding that it has nothing to do with Nyamira County.

West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi said he will be going about his business with Borabu MP Ben Momanyi adding that he will be busy in his constituency.

"The president is coming to Kisii and not Nyamira. There is a clear distinction between that. He isn't coming to our county and I will be busy elsewhere with my programme," he said.

Momanyi on his part added: "I will be in my constituency. It's not a Nyamira trip so that's not even strange. When our time comes, we shall join the president as usual.

Their protest comes hours after Gusii MPs caucus Chairman Joash Nyamoko said the president had agreed to meet Nyamira leadership at Kisii on Wednesday to iron out thorny issues.

Under unclear circumstances, Uhuru cancelled his trip to Nyamira despite having indicated that he will visit jointly the two counties early this month.
