Ngilu says Annan rescued Kenya in 2008 hence should be honored in his death.

Speaking to journalists in Kitui Town on Sunday, Ngilu described  Annan as a selfless leader who valued peace and unity.

She said the former UN boss was committed to seeing peace in Africa and the world.

Ngilu said the world has lost a heroic leader who put his life first in the search for peace and unity in many countries.

"Kenyans owe Kofi Annan a debt and at this time we must stand with the family and the world as they mourn him," Ngilu said.

Ngilu stated that were it not for Annan's intervention,  Kenya would have burned to ashes and never recovered.

"He did a great job in mediating between former President Mwai Kibaki and ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga who was disputing the 2007  presidential election," she said.

Annan mediated between Raila and Kibaki leading to the signing of National Accord peace in 2008 that saw the formation of unity and coalition government ending the chaos that had rocked the country leading to deaths,  destruction of property and displacement of communities.

Annan died on Saturday morning, leaders across the world continue to send in their tributes.
