The leaders say that they will petition President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the county if Governor Mike Sonko does not pick his deputy.

According to the leaders led by Samuel Mureithi, Sonko’s delay in picking his deputy is hampering development in Nairobi county.

Speaking in Westlands in Nairobi on Sunday, the leaders gave Sonko two weeks to pick his deputy.

“We are concerned that Governor Sonko has refused to fill in the deputy governor’s position 10 months since it was left vacant,” Mureithi said.

The leaders said that Nairobians are disadvantaged since they don’t have a deputy governor.

Governor Sonko has been under pressure to fill the deputy governor position that was left vacant by Polycarp Igathe.

In August, Sonko shortlisted four women among the former Starehe MP Margret Wanjiru for the deputy governor position.

Sonko has maintained that he is taking up his time to fill the position.

The governor says that he will not be pressured to make the appointment.
