Tithing is common in many Christian churches and other religions. In many churches, people who don’t tithe are considered as robbers and often condemned.

According to the religious teachings, it is mandatory for a believer to tithe 10 percent of what he or she earns.

While many believers believing in tithing, the case if different at Jerusalem church of Christ.

At Jerusalem church led by self-proclaimed prophetess Mary Akatsa commonly known as Mary Sinaida or ‘Mummy’, worshipers don’t tithe.

Instead,  worshipers are required to register themselves and their family members every year.

The registration fee varies among children and the adults.

The preacher says that tithing does not only involve payment of 10 percent but extends to other things.

She says that there are many ways through which the tithe can be done adding greedy pastors and church officials have commercialized tithing.

“There is no point of engaging worshipers in 'commercialized tithing' which is the case in many churches across the country and the world-over,” she said.

She adds that her church is founded on strict teachings of the Bible and does not encourage commercialization of church activities.

Mummy adds that her church members have been taught to give and especially to the less fortunate people.

“We contribute money and other things to help people who have been grieved, people who are unemployed and those that need our help,” she said.

Mummy further says that she takes her own initiative to foot everything whenever a member dies or loses next of kin.

The Jerusalem church preacher is known for her strictness when it comes to religious matters.

She is feared for her tough stand on issues and has been captured on camera beating (disciplining) rogue members of her church.
