Father Njoroge, who was in charge of the St Peters Catholic Church in Kinoo, was on Monday attacked by gunmen as he was taking the church's offering to a bank in Kikuyu.

The thugs made away with the money after shooting the priest through the windscreen of his vehicle.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Kikuyu PCEA Hospital.

Speaking during his requiem mass on Thursday, Father Patrick Ndung’u said his colleague had expressed concerns over some church members.

“Father Njoroge was not a happy man by the time he was killed and had even mentioned names of people who had been giving him problems at the church,” said Ndung’u as quoted by the Standard.

Fr Ndung’u did not, however, divulge more details but argued that the murder might have been planned.

Speaking at the same event, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu called on Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to ensure the killers are brought to book.

"We want to see the people who killed the priest apprehended and brought to book as quickly as possible. Justice must prevail," the county boss said.

Father Njoroge will be buried on Monday at St Mary's Msongari.
