A barmaid working at Sports Bar in Lela on Saturday evening is purported to have poured concentrated acid on a police officer’s wife who later succumbed to the burns on her way to Russia Hospital in Kisumu.
According to a witness, the officer's wife identified as Rehema had allegedly confronted the barmaid on Saturday night for having sexual relations with his husband warning her to keep off.
After a fiery exchange of insults between the two, Martha, the barmaid, is said to have rushed into her room and returned with a can containing acid which she then poured onto the unsuspecting Rehema's face before running away.
“She went inside her room, took acid and poured it at her (Rehema) face. She told her to visit the VCT with her husband as she ran away,” one of the bar attendants said.
Rehema was then taken but succumbed to burns before she could reach the hospital.
The area chief Wilson Obusia urged volunteers to provide necessary information to help find out the suspect's whereabouts.
“The ladies who work with Martha, please tell the police what you know. She’s not your friend anymore. You have seen what she has just done and you won’t be happy if it happened to you,” he said.
The officer who’s in between the wrangle hasn’t spoken anything up to this point though one bar attendant confirmed that he was very close to the suspect.
