The lawyers Priscilla Kioko and Susan Chepkemoi on Saturday speaking in Tala town asked residents not to shield defilers but instead take the cases in court.

Kioko said culprits in defilement cases have gone unpunished due to leniency and solving of the cases locally.

“Many cases have collapsed due to lack of evidence because witnesses end up siding with the suspects. Solving such cases out side the courts has led to increased defilement cases in the region,” she said.

She urged parents not to fall into traps to engage in talks with rape suspects locally with the influence of elders and local administrators.

Chepkemoi said those interfering with evidence must be also arrested and prosecuted.
