Arguably most spoken minister in President Uhuru Kenyatta's government, Fred Matiang'i's journey is closely monitored from his Gusii backyard.
As Uhuru hits his second and final term, Matiang'i's next move has kept political elites from Kisii and Nyamira Counties in panic given his growing popularity among the Abagusii community.
A section of legislators led by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro have been luring him to run as DP William Ruto's running mate in 2022, but he is yet to come open on the proposal.
"We have numbers and the community is going for nothing less than DP position. Matiang'i is capable of guiding us," he said at a function in South Mugirango.
The second option, which people have associated him with is gubernatorial position.
What however complicates the matrix is whether to run for Kisii or Nyamira gubernatorial seats.
His family hails from Kisii County but he was born and bread in Nyamira.
"I am ready for him. He is free to come to the field and we face each other," Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati had said. He's eyeing Kisii top seat.
Finally, with his strong academic background, Matiang'i by resolve to go back to lecture halls or consultancy.
Before he joined government, he was a senior lecturer in the University of Nairobi.
