Early this year, a frustrated Sonko openly accused State House of micromanaging City Hall, adding that he would fight to the end.

But on Wednesday in a phone call to his Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu, Sonko conceded that he runs the county through order from above.

"Unajua mimi Nairobi nimekaliwa," he said as Waititu urged him to have his wife, Susan Wangare released.

In the leaked video, Sonko adds: "Navunja sheria kwa kuwachilia mama because wewe ni colleague wangu. Lakini hao wengine pigia mdosi ama Waita."

Mrs. Wangare, who has since been released on bail, was arrested along with 15 others over illegal construction of buildings within Nairobi.

Nzioka Waits is State House Chief of Staff while 'Mdosi' a Swahili name for 'boss' is President Uhuru Kenyatta.

As part of his fight against State House, Sonko had picked estranged Canadian based lawyer Miguna Miguna to be his deputy much to Uhuru's provocation.
