Mwau was elected alongside Governor Kivutha Kibwana in the 2013 general election on their Muungano Party.

The two top politicians retained their seats on August 8, 2017, general election on Wiper Party ticket.

Mwau has so far declared an interest in succeeding Kibwana who is now serving his last term in office.

She says that she is experienced enough to take Makueni leadership from her current boss.

Mwau was born and raised in Nunguni, Makueni County.

She schooled in Makueni for her primary and secondary education.

The deputy governor is a teacher by profession and holds a Certificate in teaching (P1) from the Machakos Teachers Training College.

She also holds a Master’s Degree in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies-Holland.

The gender activist also holds a Diploma in Adult Education from the University of Nairobi.

She joined active politics in 1997 when she unsuccessfully contested for the Kilome parliamentary seat.

Mwau was a critic of retired president Daniel Arap Moi’s style of leadership.

In 2002, she was nominated as a Member of Parliament.

She served in the position to 2007.

Mwau also served as an Assistant Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development between 2003 and 2007.

In 2012, she was picked as a running mate by Governor Kivutha Kibwana.

Mwau, a crusader of human rights has been critical in Makueni government’s success story.

She is married with children.

Mwau is also a staunch Christian and loves traveling and meeting new people.

She says she has what it takes to take over form governor Kibwana in 2022.

Political analyst Peter Ngure notes that Mwau will face stiff competition in the bid to succeed governor Kibwana in 2022.

The analyst notes that other top politicians among them Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior could be eyeing to contest for the Makueni gubernatorial seat in 2022.
