The alliance, according to sources, is being crafted to bring on board Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Kanu chairman Gideon Moi.

This new alliance is said to be the brainchild of opposition bigwig Raila Odinga to cut Deputy President William Ruto to size and dim his chances of clinching the presidency.

On December 1, Moi visited Kakamega where he met Mudavadi and Raila’s ally James Orengo.

Speaking during the function, Orengo hinted to a possible political pact being pushed by his political master.

“Our party Raila Amollo Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta are building something that will belong to every Kenyan and stop some people from their plans,” Orengo said.

An MP who is aware of plans to have the three leaders form an alliance said the dynasties ‘see Ruto is a heartbeat away from the presidency and therefore wants something like what happened in 2002’.

In 2002, Raila Odinga led a rebellion of then Kanu candidate by walking out of the party and teamed up with other top opposition figures to build NARC which uprooted Kanu from power.

“Raila must be convincing Uhuru so that the two can back an alliance that will beat Ruto,” the MP said.

Speaking in Bungoma on Sunday, Deputy President William Ruto told his opponents to stop panicking.

“People should stop panicking about my traversing the country saying it is 2022 campaigns, I'm yet to start my campaigns because when I start they will be in for a rude shock,” he said.
