Obado will on Monday be arraigned in court and be charged with the murder of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

The 26-year-old student, who lost her life in a gruesome murder about three weeks ago, was Obado's girlfriend, a fact the county boss has confirmed.

At the time of her death, Otieno was not in good terms with Obado over the later's failure to meet some demands.

A DNA test conducted this week revealed the embattled politician had fathered the unborn baby the student was carrying.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti decided to charge the governor after establishing he was present at the scene of crime in Homa Bay, as proved by phone signals.

Obado has hired renowned lawyer Cliff Ombeta to help him overcome the criminal charges which threaten to sabotage his political career.

But according to blogger Robert Alai, Ombeta is only obsessed with media coverage and would be of little help to the second-time governor who risks being hanged if found guilty.

Through his Twitter account, Alai advised Obado to drop the veteran criminal lawyer for a successful defence.

"But Obado will not be helped much by Cliff Ombeta who is more interested in cameras and not defending his client. Obado should look for a better lawyer," Alai posted.

Ombeta maintains his client is innocent and has accused the DCI of bowing to public pressure to institute the charges.

"We will fight them in court. They are destroying the career of an innocent person. They should be ashamed," he told journalists on Friday.
