Kanu election board chairman Eddie Kivuvani presented Sheikh with a clearance certificate at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi.

Sheikh will contest for the seat during the by-election and he will face off with Jubilee Party’s Mohamed Kolosh, Ford Kenya’s Daudi Muhammed Ali and Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) Mohamed Yusuf.

The Wajir West seat fell vacant after Kolosh lost his seat when the Supreme Court in January nullified his election on grounds that he was not validly elected.

Kolosh lost his seat after KANU’s Abdirahman Ibrahim Mohamed moved to court to challenge his election as Wajir West MP.

After the ruling by the Supreme Court, former Wajir West MP Mohamed Kolosh resigned from ODM party and joined Jubilee.

ODM replaced Kolosh with Prof. Mohammed Yussuf Elmi who until recently was the Chancellor of Rongo University and had also worked with UNICEF.

Campaigns in Wajir have already started ahead of the by-election as clans seek to pick their favourite candidates based on their promises and what they will deliver to the people.
