In a tweet on Saturday, Prof Kiyiapi pointed out an assumption in the questionnaire that he contended might be based on a false premise.

According to the renowned scholar, the questionnaires deployed in the decennial exercise assume that if someone resides in the city then all he owns must be in the city.

He also revealed in the tweet that the questionnaires were silent on the questions of resources.

"Have just been ENUMERATED. The questionnaire is silent on resources held by urban dwellers in their home counties or rural areas. For example, if I live in Nairobi because of work, it assumes all I own must be in Nairobi CIty County. OR Maybe this info is not important.3439192," the tweet read.

The national census officially kicked off yesterday, Saturday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President Dr Wiliam Ruto and veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga are among the high profile individuals counted.

As part of the data collection exercise, questionnaires have to be filled and a number of questions posed.

Kenyans have been urged by the government to participate in the exercise as a patriotic duty.
