This comes only weeks after the Supreme Court upheld the Court of Appeal's dismissal of an appeal to High Court ruling and annulled Chris Karan's election as the area's Member to the National Assembly.

Karan's ouster followed successful petition by former lawmaker David Ochieng who argued that the race was marred with cases of election malpractices and irregularities, including malicious propaganda.

However, it emerges that the party is so keen on recapturing the seat that it has already picked strong area leaders to head its campaigns for the forthcoming by-election.

According to the People Daily, ODM party leader Raila Odinga has picked among others, Siaya Senator James Orengo and Governor Cornell Rasanga to lead the push.

Confirming the same on Thursday, Rasanga said they are giving it, its all and will definitely deliver the seat back to the party which is the dominant bloc in the larger Siaya county.

"There is no way ODM will lose that seat. We will do everything possible to retain the seat," he told the paper in a phone interview.

David Ochieng is also expected to participate in the race whose date is yet to be communicated by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
