Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has politically 'stripped naked' the coast region.

Mvurya’s decision to oppose the election of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya as the Council of Governors (CoG) chairman has portrayed coast leaders as those who believe in ascribed leadership.

Our young democracy needs politicians who are ready to fight for elective positions as opposed to promises based on party affiliations and other non-democratic agreements.

“I did not participate in the election because I was not happy with how the CoG treated the succession process,” Mvurya said.

Mvurya alleged that he was promised to succeed Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok after six months but the promise was never honored.

However, Oparanya is right to question the timing of Mvurya’s complain. Why didn’t he complain after the six months elapsed?

“If my friend was interested in the position, I never saw his form nor did I see his name on the ballot paper. And by any chance if he was promised the seat after six months, it is one year now. Why didn’t he complain?” Oparanya quizzed as quoted by Standard.

Oparanya will be deputised by Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria.

Coast politicians should stop embarrassing this region and dive into the political ocean at the national level.
