The 39-year-old gay rugby player has been living in the UK on asylum after his work visa expired back in 2016.

Macharia went to the UK in 2009 on a student visa to pursue a master's degree in mechanical engineering.

While in the UK, he joined Bristol Bisons, which is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) rugby team as a photographer before fully joining the group as a player.

However, when his visa expired, he applied to live in the UK on asylum out of the fear he will be victimised if he came back to Kenya, considering the Kenyan criminalizes LGBTQ.

UK's Home Office decision letter sent to Macharia has, however, declined his recent request to stay longer in the UK.

"You have no basis to continue to stay in the United Kingdom and you are expected to make arrangements to leave the United Kingdom without delay," read the letter in part.

Macharia's rubgy coleagues led by Murray Jones said they will keep on fighting for Macharia to remain in UK.

"Given the fact that Kenya has upheld gay sex as a criminal offence very recently, we'll continue to fight for Ken, and we will be there at Bridgwater police station at 11 am on Thursday," said Murray as quoted by BBC.Kenyan gay rugby player faces deportation after UK rejects asylum bid
