Opposition leader Raila Odinga remains the leading political figure in Luo Nyanza, but not without a few leaders who seem a threat to his domination.
Here are some figures he will have to deal with to eradicate any chances of them throwing him off the balance in the 2022 general polls.
1. David Ochieng
The former Ugenya lawmaker is a threat to Raila's domination in his Siaya bedrock.
He will have embarrassed the former Premier should he win the seat in the approaching Ugenya parliamentary by-election.
This is after the latter who is vying on his Movement for Democracy and Growth Party (MDG) successfully petitioned the election of area MP Chris Karan on Raila's Orange party.
Actually, Karan narrowly beat him in the 2017 polls, with a margin of 200 votes, and will have humiliated Raila should he manage to win the seat in April as detailed by the Standard.
Raila will have to do his best to weaken Ochieng' and finish him completely, failure to which he will appear to be losing grip of the constituency.
Should Ochieng' win, it will not be shocking to see him go for an even bigger seat in 2022, worsening it for Raila.
2. Okoth Obado
He is the Governor for Migori.
Obado is a rebellious man who has openly defied Raila and ODM.
The latest scenario was in September 2018, when he supported the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) candidate Eddy Oketch for the Migori senatorial by-election.
Obado an ODM member did this despite the Orange party having rallied its support behind its candidate Ochillo Ayacko who went ahead to win the seat without Obado's blessings.
In November, he appeared so close to Deputy President William Ruto and could end up being Ruto's point man in the region.
This could make things hard for Raila who is also said to be warming up to face Ruto in the presidential race.
3. Olago Aluoch
The Kisumu West lawmaker is the only sitting MP in Luo Nyanza who doesn't hail from ODM.
Instead, the third term lawmaker is an ally of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula on whose Ford Kenya party ticket he is in office.
Raila must get a way of sweeping the lawyer off his feet and replacing him with a friendly lawmaker from ODM.
