After his August 2017 triumph, Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo is slowly becoming Mombasa's political giant and to many, he may be the region's next political kingpin if he plays his cards well.
Kisauni has always been the place of political heavyweights including the late Karisa Maitha and Governor Hassan Joho. Mbogo is following suit.
For a constituency that always dictates the tempo of Mombasa politics, another son has emerged and with Deputy President William Ruto making forays into the region with an effort to swing it into the Jubilee formation, Mbogo might be the man to finally deliver the votes to the self-proclaimed hustler and end Raila's dominance of the region.
Boasting deeper pockets, Mbogo who also eyes the Mombasa Governor position come 2022 has Ruto's trust.
The DP has been a frequent visitor in the constituency where he has been launching various development projects. Besides that, the 2022 political math has never gone unnoticed.
Being a self-made politician, Mbogo foes not need a political godfather to survive. He proved that in 2017 when he humbled the ODM candidate Rashid Bedzimba.
Is he about to do the same again by delivering Mombasa to Ruto come the next general election? Well, time will tell.
