the 22-year-old second-year Business Economic student who revealed he had placed a live bet of a Croatian player by the name Ivan Perisic to score anytime had used sh10,000 because he was very sure he will win the bet.

"I was not in the mood of betting but after the squad was revealed, I saw Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic making in the squad but waited until the second half of the game," he said.

As England thrashed Croatia 1-0 in the first half, the odds of Croatian players to score were high in the second half and this further motivated Maina to place his bet of Perisic to score.

"I decided to wait for the second half of the game and because England was in the lead, the odds of Ivan Perisic, a Croatian player to score were at 25.0 and I used the whole of sh10,000 I had saved from my HELB loan with possible winnings of sh250,000," Maina said.

It was in the 68th minute when everything went right for Maina as Perisic scored an equaliser which eventually won the bet.

He could not explain the joy of winning such a huge amount and broke into wild celebration immediately to the shock of his fellow students who were following the game.

Maina further revealed how the money he had won would help him to expand his hotel business back at home apart from paying school fees.

"This money I won is a great relief, I will expand my booming hotel business at home and pay my fees with it also," said Maina.

Croatia later won in extra time after Mario Madzukic scored the second goal and they are set to face France on final day as England fight for the third spot with Belgium.
