In Nairobi, politicians are silently strategising on how to gain support and popularity before 2022.
Nairobi City is often the center of politics during the electioneering period with top politicians eyeing the millions of votes in the city.
As 2022 takes shape, here are five Nairobi youthful politicians who will determine on how city dwellers will vote.
1. Ken Okoth
He is the Kibera MP serving his second term in office.
The ODM MP’s influence and popularity continues to rise and has been voted among best performing lawmakers.
There are claims that Okoth could be Raila Odinga’s successor.
He is expected to rally Kibera residents and Nairobi dwellers at large to support him and his allies in 2022.
2. Babu Owino
He is the Embakasi East MP serving his first term in office.
The former University of Nairobi (UoN) student leader has a large following in the city and will certainly be among the forces to shape Nairobi politics in 2022.
He enjoys massive youth support base.
Babu Owino has already hinted at contesting for a bigger political seat in 2022.
3. Simba Arati
He is the Dagorreti North MP serving his second term in office.
Arati is considered as Raila Odinga’s close ally in city politics.
The MP is popular among the youth and is also a crowd puller.
He will play a key role on the direction Nairobi politics take in 2022.
Arati is likely to contest for a bigger political seat in 2022.
There are however claims that he could shift his politics from Nairobi to Nyamira, his home county.
4. Charles Kanyi alias Jaguar
He is the Starehe MP serving his first term in office.
Jaguar was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket in the 2017 polls. He quit his music career to venture into politics and is expected to shape the direction city politics will take in 2022.
5. Millicent Mugadi
She is Nairobi's Kairokor MCA serving her second term in office.
The MCA's popularity continues to rise among city women and is expected to play a key role in the city 2022 succession politics.
There are claims that Mugadi could contest for the Nairobi women rep seat in 2022.
According to political pundit Peter Ngure, Nairobi remains the political hot-bed of the country's politics.
He says that Nairobians will decide on the direction the presidential election will take in 2022.
