Sleuths probing the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno believe Migori Governor Okoth Obado was around the crime of scene contrary to his earlier statement.

Sources have said that Obado, in his statement, which he made at the Nyanza regional headquarters, claimed he was in Nairobi on the day the late Sharon and Journalist Barrack Oduor were abducted.

Crimebusters, however, trace his mobile signals to Homa Bay on the material day.

After Sharon was abducted, her body was found dumped in a thicket at a forest in Homabay.

Police have also established that the Migori County chief was ‘in constant communication’ with other suspects in the murder on that day.

“He had said that he was in Nairobi but we have since established he was in Migori and Homa Bay, these are the same places where Sharon was abducted and later killed. This raised the red flag on why he was misleading investigators,” a police source said.

Also, another officer among the squad that has been working to unmask Sharon’s killers said one of the suspects has spilled the beans ‘on everything concerning the day the university girl was killed’.

Obado was arrested on Friday and will stay behind bars until Monday morning where he will be presented in court.

His lawyer Cliff Ombeta has however dismissed the police version claiming that the investigators are giving in to public pressure to arrest the governor.
