There was a bitter and ugly exchange of words on social media earlier this week between the former and the current Muuga FM heads of radio.

This is after the former head (Winnie Kungania) of the Kimeru language station owned by Royal Media Services made a comment on a Facebook post that apparently did not augur well with the station's current boss, Grace Mukiri.

"BTW congratulations to Frank and team for a job well done. I was not expecting any less from you, considering the fact that your (station) jingles were done by Muuga. Or it is a case of competition endorsing competition," Kuungania wrote on Thursday.

However, it did not take long before Mukiri bluntly replied to her former boss's comment in 'bold' capital letters, perhaps to nail the point home.

"Seems you have not moved on. I will not lower my standards to your level. Don't get me started!" she exclaims.

According to an insider who sought anonymity, the ugly altercation could have culminated from a recent radio audience survey conducted by the Kenya Audience Research Foundation (KARF) that puts rival Meru FM owned by MediaMax Network, way ahead of Muuga FM in listenership.

Muuga FM has since its inception in 2006, been the unrivaled market leader among Kimeru language radio stations.

Kungania, a Masters graduate, headed the station for many years before she was unceremoniously fired around 2016 when the RMS management sacked many of its underperforming and redundant employees.

At the time of her firing, Kungania was deputized by her then new-found love, Mbaka Muriuki, who was a youth's show presenter at the same station.

Muriuki was also shown the door at the same time though he got a reprieve at Meru FM after where he co-hosts a youth's show.

On the other hand, Mukiri was working under Kungania as a presenter for the early morning gospel show but got promoted after Winnie's exit.
