Former ODM Pentagon member Najib Balala was present on his capacity as Tourism minister while Keriako Tobiko participated as Environmental boss.

And the minister without portfolio Raphael Tuju, who doubles as Jubilee Secretary General, made again another appearance with Odinga, a move that could ignite sharp political debate in Nyanza region.

Raila said: "On a site visit to the Kisumu Pier where work on removal of the water hyacinth and rejuvenation of the Lake Victoria ecosystem is underway."

"The water hyacinth has deprived of our people their economic livelihoods and the ongoing process will help them expand their activities across the lake and thus improve the countries economy," he said on Twitter.

The presence of ministers in Raila's activities across the country is a manifestation of blossoming relationship with his former competitor, President Uhuru Kenyatta. Mr Kenyatta lobbied for Raila's appointment as AU envoy in charge of infrastructure.

In January this year, Raila and Uhuru had supper not far from the venue of Monday's trip after the duo had attended a funeral to former Youth Enterprise Fund boss Bruce Odhiambo.

The former Prime Minister had invited the president to inspect the removal of water hyacinth days after the government had procured a dredger for the process.
