Mwangi on Wednesday said that it is unfortunate the Head of State is yet to swing into action even after Deputy President accepted that the land on which the property lies was acquired through an illegal means.

He also said that as long as the hotel will not be brought down, the fight against land grabbers will not bear fruits at the end of the day.

“Kenyans are wondering if we should help @UKenyatta do the right thing by demolishing Weston Hotel ourselves? Deputy President Williams Ruto should hand over the grabbed land back to @CAA_Kenya. As long as Weston stands, it's a sign of impunity. Stolen land is stolen land. #SemaUkweli,” he tweeted.

National Lands Council has also asked Ruto to pay the current market price if he wants to retain the multi-million property.

Ruto, who has been accused of land grabbing by opposition leaders, had promised to comply with the commission as far as the property is concerned before he was hit with shocker by Outgoing NLC vice chair Abigael Mbagaya.

According to Mbagaya, Ruto must part with the said amount in order to enable the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) to acquire a similar piece of land elsewhere.

Speaking on Tuesday during Citizen TV’s Day Break Show, Mbagaya said that the commission will ensure justice is served.  She also dismissed claims that the commission is being influenced by powerful politicians in a bid to frustrate DP Ruto as he seeks to ascend to power in 2022.

“How can there be a political influence when you are telling somebody to pay restitution to the people of Kenya?” she posed.

During an interview on BBC’s Hard Talk show hosted by Stephen Sackur, Ruto said that he was willing to settle the matter once and for all when he admitted illegalities in the process of acquisition of the land.
