Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter's election nullification has been upheld by the Court of Appeal in Eldoret town.

According to Justices Erastus Githinji, Hannah Okwengu and Jamilah Mohammed, Keter was elected according to the rules and regulations set aside.

The three-judge bench also said that the petitioner, Benard Kitur did not provide sufficient evidence to show that Keter engaged in election malpractices.

According to Keter’s lawyers led by Otiende Amollo, they appealed against the High Court’s decision to nullify Keter’s election citing that the High Court judge Kanyi Kimondo did not have enough evidence to nullify the election results.

This decision has been received with varied views from residents. Here are some of their comments;

"Does the judiciary have internal controls to check the quality of rulings to keep judges on the straight and narrow without interfering with independence. Keter and Babu rulings were outrightly warped. Leaving such rulings to appeals as the control is like giving lower courts open cheques to interpret the law whichever way at great cost to litigants," said Kusinjiru Imala.

"Now fight on HON Keter, I salute your lawyer Amollo, he did a super job," said Frank James.

“God’s plan will always come true,” noted Rita Chepkoech.

“Congratulations Hon. Keter. We elected you genuinely,” said Moses Koech.

“Accept and move on Mr Kibor. Acha pang’ang’a mingi,” said Amos Kipchumba.

“Corruption will kill us some day. najua tu kuna mtu amehongana mahili,” claimed Enos Kakai.

“Bora uhai,” noted Mercy Kimani.

“Shida zao. Hawatusaidii ata. They steal from us every day,”  Maureen Kaulu said.

“Kibor must appeal at the Supreme Court. Laziam ashinde tena,” said Ronald Rono.

“It doesn’t matter who it will be. Provided you come on the ground and help your people, we are glad for you,” said Elimy Jelimo.
